Apple is reportedly developing low-end AirPods to target the "low-cost wireless earphone market."
Apple, which has always adhered to its high price policy, is trying to expand its presence in the low-priced market by introducing wireless earphones worth 100,000 won.
Apple's media outlet 9to5mac reported on the 3rd (local time) that Apple is developing low-cost wireless earphones called AirPods Lite.
The price of AirPods Light is expected to be less than $129 (about 160,000 won). Considering that Apple's existing wireless earphones are 200,000 won to 300,000 won, it is half the price.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research, the market share of wireless earphones over $150 has stagnated from 37% to 30% over the past three years (2020-2022), but products under $100 have been steadily increasing from 46% to 55%.
It is observed that Apple, which has become less positioned due to emerging companies with low and medium-priced models, has eventually taken out its low-end "AirPods Lite" card.
Currently, Apple's cheapest wireless earphone is the 'Second Generation AirPods' released in 2019, which sells for $129 (about 160,000 won). "AirPods 3rd Generation" costs 169 dollars (about 210,000 won) and "AirPods Pro 2nd Generation" costs 249 dollars (about 320,000 won, official store price in Korea 359,000 won).
