National pension pay rises 5.1 pct this year

This year, the amount of national pension benefits will be raised by 5.1%, reflecting last year's national consumer price fluctuation rate. The increase will be reflected from the payment on the 25th of this month.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 8th that the pension benefits of about 6.22 million people currently receiving the national pension will be raised by 5.1 percent from January this year.

As of October last year, the number of national pension recipients was 5.23 million for old-age pensions, 70,000 for disability pensions, and 920,000 for bereaved families.

Pensioners who received 1 million won per month will now receive 1051,000 won, up 5.1 percent (51,000 won).

If there are dependents such as spouses, children, and parents, the amount of dependents pension in the nature of family allowances that pensioners receive will also be raised by 5.1%.

In addition, the A value (average income of all households in the national pension for three years: 2,861,091 won, up 6.7% year-on-year) and the annual revaluation rate will be decided and applied from this month.

The revaluation rate is a coefficient that is multiplied to convert past income into present value, and refers to the value obtained by dividing the value of A in the previous year when supply and demand began by the value of A in the revaluation year.

For example, if the income was 1 million won in 1988, the pension amount is calculated based on 7.64 million won, which was reevaluated at the present value by multiplying it by the 1988 revaluation rate of 7.640 million won.

This allows actual income to be reflected by converting income during the past subscription period into the current value of receiving pensions, which differentiates the national pension from other private pension systems.

After deliberation by the National Pension Review Committee, the Ministry of Health and Welfare plans to prepare a revision to the "National Pension Reevaluation Rate and Pension Amount Adjustment" notice, announce it by the 9th to 11th, and finalize the final plan this month.

An official from the Ministry of Health and Welfare said, "Groups or individuals who have opinions on the revision of the notice can submit their opinions to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's National Pension Policy Division by the 11th."
